Two very significant things happened to me yesterday.
1. I sent my son to school
2. I read a powerful piece of writing.
Some mornings, I see my little boy off to school. Yesterday, as he was driven away in the big yellow bus, he pressed his little face to the window, and smiled his shy sweet smile, and waved. He always sits in the last row. As the bus turned the corner, he whipped around too, to the back window, and continued waving. Now I could only see his eyes and the top of his gleaming head. But he kept stretching his arm up... Up and up, higher and higher, as if to make himself a little larger for me to see... Me too... I stood there, balancing on the very tips of my toes, calves burning, arm extended above my head as high as it could go, waving, a stupid goofy smile on my face... I must have looked so daft!
That light heart and complete and utter joy stayed with me all day.... I had loved, and was loved in return!
Later that day I read this powerful piece of writing on Facebook. It resonated within me. I even reposted it. Not because it reflected my state of mind at that time, or because I was feeling let down in any way or by any one, but because I recognised this emotion in so many relationships I have been witness to. This piece spoke of not being loved the way we want or need to be. And if this was the case, our chosen partner was not 'worth the treasure we offer' or some such pearl of wisdom. Very self-empowering.
I deliberated for a whole night on this. I was lead to two fundamental questions. I asked myself,
1. Why are you with your chosen partner?
And 2. What is love?
So: Why are you with your chosen partner... Because you love him. Or is it because you want him to love you? But he does love you. But is it the way you want or need to be loved?
No. He loves you the way he knows how to love. Period. Who the fuck are you to decide his way is wrong? You don't like it, move the fuck along. Don't stay there and moan about not being loved the "right" way.
Which brings me to - What is love?
Love is the emotion another person (or animal) arouses within you. It is this great welling-up of feeling another being is capable of raising within you.
And we are disappointed if, or worse, when, we realise that we ourselves, are not capable of raising the same wealth of emotion within our chosen partner.
I'm just saying it's OK. Because a relationship is an ongoing thing, an ever-changing living breathing organism.
Some days you're screaming at each other the worst abuse and the most hurtful things you can think of to say. There is no one you hate more than this chosen other. No one who drives you more mad.
And there are some days which are beautiful.
Just see it through....

I have always LOVED to dance! But my formal dance training only began when I turned 40, after my son was born. I go to the studio everyday (except Sunday. On Sunday I scrap!!!) and work on my strength and flexibility and technique. But my nemesis is choreography… I have such a hard time remembering anything… So this year I've decided to make an extra special effort to try and remember ALL my routines!

So that's what this l/o is about.

Again, the product is from MME, and the colour palette is by CSI.

Hi!
I made this layout to document my son's obsession with creatures large and small! They weren't kidding when they said 'boy's are made of frogs and snails and puppy dogs tails!'
Here's the l/o.

I made the block behind the photos with torn bits of paper stuck down with Liquitex. (Had so much fun doing that!) I then added some stitching, and some Gesso. I also added some twigs and brads. The title is an old rub on from MME.
Here are some details.

I also did some distressing. I didn't use any stain this time… I just wanted the white edges to show.
My journalling is handwritten.

So that's it! It's a very simple page, which I completed inside an hour. But it was an hour well spent!
Thanks for stopping by!!

God I've been inactive… scrapbooking wise, that is…
Well not really… I've just gotten addicted to the new Misc. Me kinda stuff, that I've not really found the need to sink my teeth into the traditional kind of page I'd generally do. Until now…
So this l/o too is for an MME challenge.
I followed their sketch, which featured a number of pictures.
Take a peep at the sketch…

Here's my interpretation! Hope you like it!

It's a relatively simple l/o, which came together fairly quickly. Mostly because I used the co-ordinating embellishments. The line is Lost & Found 2, papers, stickers and brads.
Here are some close-ups.
To finish my l/o, I did some distressing, inking and stitching.
I really enjoyed putting this l/o together, mostly because of the yummilicious goodies I got to play with!
So thank you MME! And thank you for stopping by!
Goodnight!

Hi people!
Thanks for stopping by! I created this project using mainly MME products. The thing I love most about MME is the fact that I can combine lines easily. this, and the sheer versatility of the lines make MME an easy choice for me.
Take a look at my l/o.

This is the first time I've attempted to make a double page layout. The August challenge at MME was to scrap a summer, and I had so many pictures i wanted to include.
The papers from one l/o are from the So Sophie collection, and for the other l/o are the Stella and Rose collection. The tags and the rub-ons are from an old old collection, Laundry Line (I just love this collection). The stickers are fro Indie Chic. The brads and the rhinestone flourish are from Lost & Found 2.
I think everything works together so well.
I used stitching and distressing, some Prima flowers, and some shells, and that's it! In two days I was done.
Here are some details.
It's 2013!
For me, 2012 was not easy. There were days when I had to struggle to remember 'who' I was. I got through the hard days hour by hour, filling the minutes with things I enjoyed. It was so easy to slip into a depression, and I confess, there were days that I succumbed to the darkness. I needed help to find myself.
I started this project somewhere in December. But somehow, it never got done.
When I saw the challenge at OUAS, and the quote, "Do all things with love", I knew I could finish this. For this is my philosophy. The blueprint for how I choose to live my life. I remembered.
Here is my layout.

I found brads and stickers that reflect things I love, and I added these to my layout. Distressing, stitching, flowers and bling, all say something about who I am.

Then there's the hidden journalling. I used the actual quote, and added a bit! Behind, is a note to my son.
My husband and I were born to travel. We met as trainee flight attendants for our country's national carrier. We flew all over the world together for 15 years. Where the airline didn't fly, we went to on our own. Going to a new place, eating the local street food, and living in small local hotels is what epitomizes travel for us. We call it 'getting the true feel of the place'. For months before our departure, Edgar will sit with his copy of the Lonely Planet, and choose hotels and plan excursions, and I will read up histories and learn as much as I can about our chosen destination.
Spain came after a grueling time in our lives. We were trying to have a baby, and found out instead that I had a tumor in my brain. After three years of doctors and medication, one year of infertility treatments, pain and humiliation, and frustration, we gave up. My body was a mess, my mind was worse and our savings were gone. We resigned ourselves to being a childless couple. From now on we would travel. Spend any money we had on exploring the world. The first place we chose was Spain.
And Spain was good to us. Architecture like I'd never seen before. So much history and beauty. A culture much like our own, (we're from Goa). Good food and better drink! We were happy again.
A few months later, we were planning our next exploration. Prague. But we never got there. Spain became the last of our carefree holidays. I was pregnant!
Here is my l/o.

It's based on a sketch by Nadia from OUAS. He is crazy invested in 'his team', Manchester City, and when the game is on, Edgar can be found sitting in front of the TV, often yelling instructions to the players or cursing the decisions of the manager or the referees! This is a tradition he has handed down to his son. Adam sits on his lap, I think, content just to be there. It's so sweet to watch them both. This is what I captured on film, and used on this l/o.
But most of all, he loves to drink his milk from a bottle while I hold him, and his little fingers play with my lips. This for him is a comfort thing, and has absolutely nothing with his ability to drink from a glass or cup. I know this because he drinks everything but milk from a glass! At my wits end, I came up with a threat. Adam is very attached to his toy animals. So I told him that animals were a big boys toy, and since he was still drinking milk from a bottle, he was still a baby, ergo, he must give up the animals. I took his favorite griffin to the window and let it 'fly' away. The next day his owl took the same flight. The third day was the lions turn to fly. Maybe this was too much for Adam, he asked for his milk in a glass! Today two months later, He still drinks milk from a bottle, but only at night before he drops off to sleep, or when he's ill. I have told him that Griffin and Owl will come home when he's done with the bottle. Some days he talks of them, I guess this is one of the journeys he must make on his own....
This theme is what I chose to use for my layout. This is the case file from C.S.I.

This is my layout based on Nadia's sketch.

I muted the palette a little. For my evidence, I 'framed' the main centre striped paper with the darker green, and that with the burgundy print. I also used corners, circles and leaves. My journalling tells the story behind the photo, and is tucked behind the trio of papers framing the photo.
So when a challenge is posted, I have to really dig through my stash, and mix things up and get creative in order to create something. This also helps me find and use up stuff I'd otherwise have overlooked for more recent products. This is by far the best reason for me to look forward to C.S.I.'s challenges every week!
First up, here's what I won from OUAS!

A pack from Imaginarium! It's fantastic! I've never had any, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to use these. I'm so excited! Thank you OUAS!
For the OUAS challenge this time, I chose to focus on the new year. Last year was not the best for me, and I didn't want to create a l/o reminding me of it. I'd rather look forward than back. So that's what I did. My journalling is just a bunch of words that are important to me, and I can reflect on each of them individually, and every single time this reflection is uplifting to me. It's a sort of meditation thing.
Here's the l/o.

The palette comes from C.S.I., and was not the easiest for me! Here's a look at their case file. (i love these case files!)
It's 5.30pm IST, and I just found out. I could have just skipped this challenge altogether, but I LOVE MME, and can't imagine passing up an opportunity to use their product. The l/o had to be about something 'new'. I decided to use the Lost and Found Christmas collection, which I teamed up with some Lost & Found Union Square brads.
Here's my l/o.
"Dream, my little one... Dream of impossible beautiful beings and imaginary far-away places, and creatures little and large far beyond your ken and my reasoning. Case #1
I came across this really interesting site while stalking some of the blogs of the incredibly talented women who enter their amazing projects in OUAS challenges. It didn't sink in that the site was launching in the beginning of Jan, and so when I went through Elia's blog after she posted on OUAS, there was barely 3 days to create and post before the due date ran out.
So my page is a little rushed.
Last night made me feel uncomfortable and insecure in my own home, but I live in India, and in India life goes on. Not that it doesn't in other parts of the world, but in India we are more, I think, anaesthetized to the ugliness of humanity.
The day got immeasurably better when I found out that I was 'featured' at OUAS. The downer was that I just couldn't figure out how to get my badge up... I'd love some advice....
Anyway, this New Year's Eve was memorable to me even if for all the wrong reasons. I managed to look beyond the 'why' and find a positive for me in there. My husband. So I dedicated this project to him.
I just want to say that scrapbooking has become more than just a hobby for me. And OUAS is more than just another site to me. With your emphasis on the journalling, you kinda force us into some fierce introspection, and thus elevate what would otherwise be just another beautiful craft, to something much more meaningful... almost a legacy... So thank you.
Here's my layout.

I used lots of Tim Holtz. Thanks for stopping by, and if you're curious about what happened last thing last year, it's on my last post!
Michelle Ronconhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09725552504031356664noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4749832575514774555.post-5481514115519990832012-01-01T00:31:00.000-08:002012-01-01T00:31:57.015-08:00the one about New Year's Eve
31st December 2011 started out real slow. Adam was feeling a little under the weather and nothing and no-one can stop him from being a cranky, clingy, really heavy, and dare I say it... most irritating baby when he's ill. Even though my oldest girlfriend was in town with her lovely family, whose arrival Adam had looked forward to all week, he would not be consoled. Finally I gave him some medicine and put him to bed.
Now my day was looking better! I had some alone time with my girlfriend and even caught a 10min power nap. Adam woke up refreshed and transformed into a sweet, charming and thoroughly adorable little boy! I went to my not-to-be-missed-for-anything-in-the-world dance class, and came back with feel-good endorphins in my blood and a smile on my face! My husband came home from New York a few minutes later, and all was well in my world. In Adam's world too. The people he loved most in the world were with him, and that was enough for now. After we played with him, we bathed and fed him, and put him down to bed.
We then sat down to a simple dinner and maybe a movie. That was when we noticed my mother-in-law at the door looking kinda hassled. We could hear it now. The sound of someone in distress. Crying. The normal instinct for most people is to ignore all potentially embarrassing situations, and stay safe behind their walls. Not me. I opened my door and stepped out. The crying was coming from the landing above. Before we could say "kaun hai", a semi-hysterical Nepali woman came down the stairs crying and saying something in Nepali. Now we live on the last floor of our building. Above us are the terraces and the duct leading to the water tanks. I will not lie. I was confused and a little scared. But my broad shouldered husband was here. He's not the bravest man in the world, but I know with all my heart, he will never let any harm come to me. I told him to wake the neighbors and with a little trepidation, walked up the stairs and found the door to the duct open. By now Edgar had told the neighbor our strange tale, and had gone down to confront the watchman. I screwed up my courage once more and went upstairs again to investigate the offending duct. To my horror, there appeared before my eyes a dirty pair of feet. Needless to say, these feet were connected to a body, and the body had a head with a familiar face! It was our 2nd floor neighbors driver. Relief flooded through my body, only to be quickly doused by disgust and on its heels, fear again, at the realization that the 'friendly' was shit-faced drunk. I scurried down the stairs trying to hide my fear by indignantly berating him and asking him who the woman was and what he was doing up here. My neighbor, half hidden behind the door, took up the interrogation, while I noticed deep gouges on the drunken piece-of-shit's arms. By now all fear was gone. I was pissed off. While piece-of-shit lurched downstairs to make his escape, I sallied forth to wake up his employers.
Let no-one say I'm not polite. I apologized for waking them at this awkward hour, and proceeded to disillusion them about their Man Friday. Then we wished them a Happy New Year (by now my shining Knight had joined me) and went home to our sleeping baby.
So, when in all years past I've danced the year end away, this year I helped save a woman from being raped.
Michelle Ronconhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09725552504031356664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4749832575514774555.post-53946019971372274432011-12-27T01:31:00.000-08:002011-12-27T01:31:12.855-08:00the one about Christmas
The beautiful people over at OUAS asked their followers what we did on Christmas Day.
This is what I did. In the morning, after a sleepless night, (no, there was no kissing of Santa Claus under the mistletoe!) I got out of bed, and somehow got my normally semi-naked two-year-old into 'church clothes', and went to mass to celebrate the birth of my friend and confidant Jesus Christ. My little boy has questions about everything... He wanted to know why the prettily decorated plastic bells hanging from the church ceiling were not saying 'ding dong', and why the uncle (the priest) was hiding (he was sitting while the Readings were being read), and what did he give me to eat (communion), "What Mama, WHAT?" I have to confess, it was a most entertaining service! I'm sure Jesus thought so too, if for no other reason, than just to see my poor husband's consternation... After mass, we headed back home, to our fake tree (more indigenous trees are coconut trees in my part of the world), with its heap of presents. We ate breakfast, Adam drank milk first. With him its a 'mind' thing. I used to say 'comfort' thing, but I can't understand why he needs so much 'comfort'. Later, my mother and my brother and his family came over for lunch. My mother-in-law lives with us part of the time, so we were almost all there. My sister-in-law and her family came by after lunch. So, after more presents were exchanged, we all sat down to a home cooked meal.
Laughter, kids, good food and people I love to share it with! These are special moments indeed!
Here is the layout I made.
Thank you Nadia and all! This is what I came up with for the current MME challenge. Everything on the page is MME, with a little help from Tim Holtz.
The pictures are of Adam just before he turned one. He was sitting in this bucket of water in the sunshine, looking like his bucket of joy was filled to capacity!
My l/o is made mostly from scrap leftover from another project, but I love the colours and the prints so much, I just had to use it one more time.
Here's a close-up of the details.
Prima.... I am of the opinion that a layout must have more than paper. Buttons, ribbon, lace, metal... the list goes on... and flowers... Whenever I've needed a flower, I've needed Prima. And now there's so much more! Trinkets and resins! Papers and tiles! And bling! Oh My God... its beyond amazing! But I live halfway across the globe, in India, and its so difficult to get my hands on product, so I have to pace myself.
I made this for Prima BAP Nov. I hope you like it. It's my first Prima l/o.
Ok. Thanks for stopping by. I'd really appreciate any advice on how to improve my flower-work, or anything else you might think needs improvement!
Michelle Ronconhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09725552504031356664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4749832575514774555.post-43902896734660365572011-11-26T01:11:00.000-08:002011-11-26T01:11:05.169-08:00OUAS
The wonderfully talented folk at OUAS have asked us to create a l/o describing what is so special about being a woman. I think having a baby is as special as it gets. I have a very special bond with my little son. I'm the centre of his expanding universe, and I love it! He is truly my heart walking about on two sturdy little legs, absorbing, learning and assimilating every waking minute of every day. His journey, while to some maybe mundane, to me is fascinating. And worth every change I've made to my life.
Here's how I interpreted the sketch.

I used Graphic 45 papers. The Domestic Goddess line. I'm as far from a domestic goddess as one can get! Most days I'm a screaming mess, trying to cram too much into too few hours! But I'm nothing if not fanciful. And I fancy being a domestic goddess! And I absolutely adore G45.
These are a couple of close-ups of the details and my journalling.
